Job Description:
Our client designs and develops specialty heterogeneous catalysts for clean fuels and other topical applications. From its new state-of-the-art facilities in South UK, the company is working on ground breaking catalysis in the growth areas such as Fischer-Tropsch and Hydro-desulphurisation. The company is well established but with entrepreneurial flair and has overseas facilities.

Summary:

This key position reports to the FT Team Leader and is responsible for the design and development of catalyst technology in the area of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS). This position collaborates with scientists and engineers in both the heterogeneous catalysis and micro-process technology (MPT) design groups. It is also expected that this position will develop professional relationships and utilize technical expertise within regional universities and other R&D organizations in meeting technical objectives.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Explore/invent novel catalyst formulations and synthesis methodologies for microchannel reactors that offer significant performance and economic advantages over conventional catalytic fixed bed, fluidized bed and stirred tank reactor technologies.
• Identify and utilize state-of-the-art equipment for catalyst synthesis and characterization.
• Correlate catalyst synthesis methodologies with physical and chemical properties and resultant performance characteristics.
• Establish/enhance collaborative relationships with heterogeneous catalyst and MPT scientists and engineers in meeting requirements for the commercialization of technology.
• Working with outside vendors, identify and purchase lab-scale equipment and supplies for catalyst R&D programs.
• Identify and coordinate utilization of technical expertise within regional universities and R&D organizations in accomplishing the technical objectives.
• Train/supervise at least one technician to perform routine catalyst synthesis and characterization studies.
• Maintain accurate records in the development of new technologies.
• Attend national/international conferences on catalysis and when appropriate present/publish technical papers.
• Insure all laboratory activities are in accordance with company safety standards.
 
Candidate Requirements:
• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
• Up to 10 years experience in heterogeneous catalysis R&D.
• The ideal candidate will have at least some experience of FT
• Strong fundamental understanding and hands-on experience in catalyst design, synthesis, characterization and testing.
• Ability to think “outside the box” in meeting technical objectives.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to be effective in a multi-disciplined, cross-organizational team atmosphere.
• Self starter requiring minimal supervision.
• You MUST have some experience in a commercial environment
