Job Description: |
Company:
The company is a thirty year old global chemicals and polymers marketing and distribution firm. Annual group revenues are in excess of three billion dollars (USD). The company’s head office is in Houston, Texas and has operations in 27 locations around the world.
The Position:
The position of Business Development Director, Chemicals reports to the Vice President of Chemicals and is based in the Houston headquarters.
Responsibilities and Accountability:
• Engage decision makers at target producers, especially small to medium sized chemicals producers and persuade them to outsource their export activity to the company. This will be done by;
1. Develop and execute an aggressive action plan to secure long-term sales and distribution contracts for marketing representations from producers of semi commodities and semi specialty chemicals for international markets pitching and leveraging the company's marketing logistics and risk management strengths
2. Hire and direct the activities of market analysts who will research and analyze trade flows for various chemicals, and identify producers corresponding to product and market opportunities of interest.
3 Cultivate and maintain relationships with these key decision makers, acting as account representative to facilitate long-term commercial and operational program success.

Candidate Requirements: |
The ideal candiate will have considerable experience in a senior position sourcing product from different producers in the US, together with existing contacts with several US producers at a senior level and clear credibility with them and their companies.
Traits and Characteristics:
• Pro-active with a high levels of energy, enthusiasm and drive. A positive attitude is very important.
• A “self-starter” who is able to take broad direction but work with minimum supervision and lead a team of like-minded professionals by example and effective motivational techniques.
• A good communicator, with good interpersonal relationship skills, throughout all levels of the company, suppliers and customers.
• Possessing a high level of personal discipline, with detail orientation and effective time management skills, focused on producing timely results both personally and through others.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Minimum of 8 years of recent business development experience within the US and/or international chemicals industry, most likely from an international distributor
• Excellent Presentation skills
• Ideally having a good network of influential contacts within target producer companies
• Sales management, team selection and development success
• Preferably having had profit and loss responsibility
• Degree in chemistry or chemical engineering preferred |
